Join NAPAWF, EPIC, Equal Pay Today and advocates, lawmakers, and community members from across the country on April 3, 2024 for a National Social Media Storm at 11am PT/2pm ET to raise awareness about the wage gap that impacts AANHPI women and their families.
On this day, we will highlight the fact that, according to 2022 Census data, on average, Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander women working full-time make 93 cents for every 1 dollar paid to white, non-Hispanic men. But when you include part-time, part-year, and all other workers, AANHPI women are paid only 80 cents for every dollar paid to white, non-Hispanic men. This more accurately reflects the economic disparities faced by AANHPI women who may be underemployed or those who work only part time.
But, that's only part of the #AANHPIEqualPay story. For certain communities, the wage gap is far greater. Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander women in particular face tremendous economic disparities, including stark wage gap inequities that can vary widely by state. Bangladeshi, Nepalese, and Burmese women are some of the lowest paid people in the nation. The wage gap affects all women. And we've all had enough.
For this AANHPI Women’s Equal Pay Day, our shared calls to action will include:
Continuing to urge federal lawmakers to support the Paycheck Fairness Act, which would modernize and strengthen the Equal Pay Act of 1963 to help close the wage gap experienced by AANHPI women; and
Calling on all federal agencies to disaggregate wage gap data so that we can better tailor economic justice solutions for key communities, such as Native Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders.
